Sunraysia Farmers & Makers Market Celebrates 20 Incredible Years

What an extraordinary day it was as we celebrated 20 years of the Sunraysia Farmers & Makers Market! The market was buzzing with visitors, and we were delighted to welcome our very special guest, Costa Georgiadis. Later in the day, Costa the Gnome made a special appearance, roaming the market with his megaphone, delighting children and joining in flower crown making and Nature Art activities. It was wonderful to see such creativity and talent from our young attendees.

This year’s market featured the equivalent of 115 3m x 3m sites – our biggest to date, offering an abundance of Christmas delights. Visitors enjoyed a wide range of unique local crafts, gourmet food, fresh fruit and vegetables, picture books, plants, and even pony rides—truly something for everyone.

The past 20 years have seen the Sunraysia Farmers & Makers Market overcome significant challenges, from floods and droughts to COVID lockdowns. Through it all, our community has continued to support and celebrate the market, making it the vibrant and thriving hub it is today.

As a not-for-profit organisation, our stallholders also generously contributed by creating three magnificent baskets of goodies, with all proceeds going to CHAILIS, a local charity that provides assistance to families in need of medical support. It was inspiring to see our community come together to give back in such a meaningful way.

We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved over the past two decades and are grateful to every stallholder, volunteer, and visitor who has contributed to the market’s success. This milestone is a celebration of community, creativity, and connection, and we look forward to many more years of bringing people together.

We must thank Lower Murray Water and Mildura Rural City Council for their generous support of this day.

Thank you for being part of our journey. Here’s to the next 20 years!

Happy 20th Birthday Sunraysia Farmers and Maker’s Market

The Sunraysia Farmers & Makers Market is turning 20, and we’re inviting the community to join us for a very special celebration on December 6 at Jaycee Park Mildura

We’re proud to announce that Costa Georgiadis, host of ABC’s Gardening Australia, will be our special guest on the morning of the event. Costa is a passionate advocate for sustainability, community, and growing local — values that perfectly align with everything our market stands for.

For the past two decades, the Sunraysia Farmers & Makers Market has operated as a not-for-profit organisation, supporting local growers, producers, and makers — and giving back to the community through donations, events, and partnerships. This milestone is a celebration of all that we’ve built together.

We’re BACK!

All good things come to those who wait!

Pop-up markets resume on the 7th November 2020!

Our wonderful market is back in a new-normal CovidSAFE format, with weekly markets until Christmas 2020, each Saturday morning from 8 am to 11 am.

Food and drink cannot be consumed at farmer’s markets in accordance with current DHHS guidelines, so we cannot have our famous breakfast made with farm-fresh produce yet and our stallholders can’t offer you samples.

Our stalls will appear a little differently because our main priority is keeping you (our patrons), our stallholders and our volunteers safe during these Covid regulated times.

Our stalls are double-spaced to allow plenty of room for you to access every grower while maintaining 1.5m distance from other attendees. The stalls will be “front facing” to prevent congregating in the stall. Please queue at 1.5m spacing for your turn as required by the DHHS. Regular stalls can only have 2 patrons at a time, and the larger stalls can only have 3 patrons shopping at one time, to maintain the social distancing requirements.

You will need a face mask unless you’re medically exempt, and we recommend that you point to your selections and not handle any produce or products that you’re not purchasing. Stallholders will happily collect your selections for you and place them into your bags.

Each stall will have approved hand sanitiser available for your use, and stations will be positioned around the market with hands-free temperature checking and sanitiser dispensing. There will also be QR CODE check in signs around the market and we strongly encourage you to scan and complete this for contact tracing if that becomes necessary. Don’t worry, your details are not visible to any other users and are only stored for the mandatory 28 days and will not be used for any other purpose.

While we love to see you at the market, this is not a social event and we encourage you to come, shop, and go. This will allow more people to visit the market without creating congregating crowds or breaching the 4m2 per person rule for outdoor gatherings. Grab a coffee from Glen’s “Common Ground” van on your way out!

Combined Markets

Combined Markets with Riverfront Boutique Markets – Mildura

These fun filled events are a fantastic morning out, where our normal market swells in size, when we incorporate the wonderfully talented artists from Riverfront Boutique Markets.

Featuring live entertainment, boutique shopping, free activities for the kids, handmade local artisan crafts, gourmet food, farmers market breakfast (that can cater to a variety of dietary requirements), quality local produce, just to give you a small idea of all that is on offer!

Set in a picturesque setting, it really is worth a visit!

Pumpkin Fest 2019

The idea for Pumpkin Fest ‘sprouted’ after the SFM heard of the waste that farmers suffer due to consumers demand for perfect produce.  On a particular farm visit, one local farmer explained that up to 50% of his produce and crop ended up in the pig’s trough, due to blemishes and marks on the skin.

With the wastage in mind, we embarked on a journey to create something for the SFM and Mildura, that would help consumers embrace the quirky and different shapes and colours of pumpkins, hopefully allowing people to realise produce doesn’t always have to be perfect.  It still tastes just the same and is just as good!
